Opening Ceremony

Smart Entry

Hospital acquired infections is a major cause of infant deaths in Sri Lanka. Smart entry is a new intervention introduced by Dr. L.P.C.Saman Kumara, in order to prevent hospital acquired infections in the NICU. This intervention makes it compulsory for anyone who enters the NICU to bear a keycard for identification and sanitize their hands prior to entry. Door lock requires signal from both WI-FI enabled card reader and hand sanitizing device, to open the door.

Safe Handling

Prior to touching a sick infant, strict hand cleanliness is even more crucial. An electronic switch, which is connected to a sanitizer bottle installed beside the incubator through Wi-Fi, was added to the incubator port holes. It emits a warning sound, activates a flashing light to alert people that the infection control rules were breached, and sends a detailed message to the officer in-charge of NICU.
