Patients for Patient Safety

Patients for Patient Safety (PFPS) is a World Health Organisation flagship Initiative, “A Decade of Patient Safety 2021-2030” that engages and empowers patients and families and facilitates their partnership with health professionals and policy-makers to make health care services safer worldwide.

Goals of PFPS;

  • Engage and empower patients, families and communities to play an active role in their own care.
  • Bring the voices of patients and people to the forefront of health care;
  • This program aims to incorporate the patient, family, and community voice into all levels of health care through engagement and empowerment.

The goal is to advocate and facilitate:

  • Patients taking ownership of their care;
  • Bringing the voices of patients and people to the forefront of health care;
  • Patient, family, and community partnerships with health professionals (health-care providers, policy-makers, researchers).
Objectives of World Patient Safety Day 2023
  • Raise global awareness of the need for active engagement of patients and their families and caregivers in all settings and at all levels of health care to improve patient safety.
  • Engage policy-makers, health care leaders, health and care workers, patients’ organizations, civil society and other stakeholders in efforts to engage patients and families in the policies and practices for safe health care.
  • Empower patients and families to be actively involved in their own health care and in the improvement of safety of health care.
  • Advocate urgent action on patient and family engagement, aligned with the Global Patient Safety Action Plan 2021–2030, to be taken by all partners.
